RESEARCH CHAIR IN ENERGY UTILISATION
INSTITUTE FOR ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENT

1.       NATURE OF APPOINTMENT
The Institute for Energy and Environment (InstEE) is seeking an
outstanding academic to lead the Centre of Excellence in Energy
Utilisation as recently established by the BRE Trust as part of its
Universities Partnership Programme. You will have an established
research reputation with research interests in small scale new and
renewable energy systems, new approaches to energy efficiency and the
integrated performance modelling of proposed solutions. You will also
have been successful in securing external research funding, have an
impressive record of publication in leading international journals and a
commitment to high quality undergraduate/postgraduate recruitment and
teaching. You will be ambitious and committed to enhancing the
Institute's reputation in the energy research field. More specifically,
you will:
*       build the research capability and standing of the Centre by
establishing new research opportunities and funding streams; 
*       ensure that the Centre attains a high level of scholarship and
sustains high quality research outputs;
*       nurture team working and provide leadership for academic
colleagues;
*       further the cross-discipline aims of InstEE through regular
interaction and collaboration with other embedded research groups;
*       engage constructively with government agencies, industry and the
community;
*       strengthen the partnership with BRE through joint ventures; and
*       contribute to the teaching of energy-related courses at the
undergraduate, postgraduate and CPD levels.
 
In establishing the Centre, the BRE Trust aims to strengthen the UK's
capacity to carry out leading-edge built environment research and
promote its practical application. The mission of the Centre is to
develop research capabilities that focus on the interface between energy
demand and supply and those that promote the evolution of improved
integrated models of energy and environmental performance of the built
environment

Subject to the Charter and Statutes and Ordinances and Regulations of
the University, you  will be responsible to Court of the University
through the Principal for providing leadership in teaching and research
in your academic area and will report annually on achievements. This is
in addition to the responsibility which each Professor owes to their
Head of Department.

Formal applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates by 28
July 2006. Formal interviews for the post will be held on 7 September
2006 preceded by informal meetings on 6 September 2006.
