I'd agree with Jeff.  At the other end of the equation
you might want to check out PVWatts, available for use
on the National Renewable Energy Lab web site. 
Without significant subsidies you'll discover that the
payback is very long indeed, with simple paybacks of
around 40 to 60 years.
