[BLDG-SIM] An eQUEST mailing list?

Dear All,
I am in the process of evaluating some free softwares and some paid softwares for my company. The intention is to be able to disseminate the information to even the design team and not keep it exclusively for the energy modellers or Eco-Services team.
A brief background of the company. It is a 120 people firm with a design team, production teams and Eco-services team. The design team should be able to do energy analysis, shading and daylighting analysis etc.

I think any kind of blog or mailing list will be a good idea. The best thing would be if these articles or any kind of information is archived by topic.
eg: shading, daylighting, plug loads, energy consumption.
Archives can include different softwares, problems with softwares, design strategies etc.
Right now the bldg-sim archives are by thread and it is a tedious process, to go check the threads which look relevant until you find the answer to your question or post your question (where you will be the zillionth person to ask the same thing) and irritate everybody who feels that you should have checked the archives before posting the question.

this will reduce the number of threads(e-mails in inbox) and get the everyone's questions answered.

Thanks,
Ruju.

specifically to the developer team, or that are very specific to the
function of EnergyPlus. Plus they are a good fit with yahoo group with
the file uploading/downloading features that (I don't think) we want
here.

Although the eQuest questions are growing, many of the questions are
phrased more as "I have this problem and I'm using eQuest" instead of "I
have this problem with eQuest." On the bldg-sim I think we get a little
more general questions applicable across many programs, advice, etc. -
kind of a virtual simulation coffee shop. Although presented with a
specific program, much of it can be applied to other programs.

I do search the archives with google periodically, especially when I
remember a past message. A wiki sounds like a good idea. Maybe there's
some grant money from google for that? I'd rather someone find grant
money to expand the library of simulation modules available in the
various software packages :) I think the blog is good also, picking out
some of the most interesting topics and archiving them in addition to
the archives here.

So I would vote for bldg-sim status quo, but kudos for raising the idea
-- and thanks to everyone at GARD for providing this user-to-user forum.
It's great that we can even have this discussion involving different
software and methods. If each vendor had their own board we'd be the
lesser for it.

David
