[Bldg-sim] Refrigeration heat rejection

Bldg-Sim,

I am modeling a laboratory with several large walk-in
coolers and freezers. I am interested to hear anyone's opinion on this
modeling strategy as I have found very little guidance in the
literature.

I am not using the refrigeration version of eQUEST. I am using the
built-in refrigeration tab. I understand, from the help file, that this
model assumes a refrigerated case rather than a walk-in. A schedule was
assigned for the cover with a value of 0 for all hours to represent a
closed case. A dummy value is entered in the Zone load to enable
refrigeration (I believe that this value is negated by the cover) and
the case temperature is specified.

I then made sure that all the walls in each of the
refrigerated zones is adiabatic including the external walls
(effectively by creating a construction with a zero U-val). I am now
specifying the actual heat rejection of the equipment (from the
designer) in the plenum (where it is actually being rejected). The heat
will be divided between each plenum space weighted by area to simulate
an open return plenum.

Any advice or comments are greatly appreciated!

Thx
