Dear all,

The closing date for the PostDoc opening below has been extended to 10 September.

Sincerely yours,
Pieter de Wilde

Ref: A0816

University of Plymouth, Faculty of Technology, School of Engineering

Applications are invited for an EPSRC-funded post as Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at the Environmental Building Group of the School of Engineering at the University of Plymouth starting in October 2008. The PDRA will take the lead in a research project that aims to enable facility managers to prepare and adapt their buildings to climate change.

Climate change is now recognized as the prime challenge of the 21st century. It is increasingly clear that there is a need to take action in order to adapt specific buildings to changing circumstances, in a cost-effective way. This research project will develop a novel approach to manage the risks posed to buildings by climate change. It will employ building simulation (coupled with uncertainty analysis) to quantify these risks, their consequences, and risk abatement options.

The successful candidate for this position will have a relevant track record and deep understanding of building energy simulation and building physics, including a PhD in this discipline and hands-on experience with a simulation engine like EnergyPlus or ESP-r. Experience with uncertainty analysis, risk management, software development/programming skills, and actual facility management will all be considered a plus for the position. The PDRA is expected to have excellent communication and organisational skills, allowing to maintain close links with project stakeholders (facility managers) and related research disciplines (eg climate change research, building services engineering).

This post is available from 1 October 2008 or as soon as possible thereafter for a maximum period of 24 months.

Salary £29138 to £33780 pa - Grade 7
