EnergyPlus is a very good tool for modeling different envelope designs to 
evaluate passive solar architectural features.  There is no book or CD for 
learning EnergyPlus.  There is a set of powerpoint files designed for a 
university course which give an overview of EnergyPlus.  These may be 
downloaded at:
