Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Energy Plus-Starting point
Zoning comes first, but the discussion in the Getting Started manual assumes
that the system designer has already determined what types of air handling
systems will be used to serve the various space types. So the zoning in that
example is guided by the equipment selection. (Ignore the flow rates listed in
the table - these were calculated later and should not be shown at this point
in the discussion.) In many projects, the designer may know from experience or
prevailing practice the types of air handling systems that will be applied to a
particular building type. In other cases, a wide range of system types may be
compared in the simulation tool.
An alternative way to look at thermal zoning is to think in terms of space
type. Spaces with similar occupancy profiles and similar temperature controls
can be grouped into a thermal zone.
