We use this method:

Basic Algorithm:
Given: A 3D Polyhedron P described as a set of faces { } where each 
face is described by its 3D vertex point list
* P can be subdivided into a set of pyramids, each defined by one 
face and a common "tip" point p somewhere in P. tip
* The volume of each pyramid is given by: (pyramid base area)*(tip 
height above base plane) / 3
* The total polygon volume is then the sum of the pyramid volumes.

Very accurate for enclosed spaces.  Not so good if many surfaces are 
missing, hence we allow the user to calculate their own and enter it 
in the Zone Object.
