You are correct that the dual setpoint themostat control type is used to allow
automatic switching between heating and cooling. The single heating and single
cooling setpoint options can be useful in cases where equipment is switched
seasonally between heating and cooling, or when only one mode is available
during certain times of day (for example, heating-only during unoccupied hours).
