Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] HAVC consultancy
Yes, a number of consulting firms are using EnergyPlus
in normal practice. We are beginning to put together
a list of such firms now (want your company on the list?
let me know).
EnergyPlus has many more capabilities and features
than either VisualDOE or Energy-10. Energy-10 is limited
to 2 zones and a limited number of HVAC configurations
(in the latest version of Energy-10, EnergyPlus actually
calculates the PV solar for Energy-10). VisualDOE uses
the DOE-2.1E simulation engine which has not had new
features added in more than 7 years.
We intended that most people would use an interface for
EnergyPlus--and there are several available now--check them out here:
http://www.eere.energy.gov/buildings/energyplus/interfaces_tools.html
(FYI, we will be adding new information on yet another
interface from HEVACOMP in the next few days.)
Also here is a (incomplete) list of buildings that we've
heard about that where consultants used EnergyPlus
for design or retrofit: (If you'd like your work showcased,
let me know. We're setting up a web database of E+ buildings.)
NY Times building, New York, NY
Freedom Tower, New York, NY
John F. Shea Federal Building, Santa Rosa, California
San Francisco Federal Building, San Francisco, California
NOAA Pacific Region Center, Ford Island, Hawaii
San Diego Supercomputer Center, San Diego, California
Thrivent Corporate Headquarters, Minneapolis, Minnesota
National Museum of New Zealand / Te Papa Tongarewa, Wellington, New Zealand
Tauranga Art Gallery, Tauranga, New Zealand
More than 20 buildings in Spain and Portugal
One last thing--if you want to see a comparison of the
features/capabilities of 20 simulation programs, check out this report:

Dear Friends,
Does HAVC consultants are regularly using this s/w for design of ac's
for buildings? or this is just used for only research only. Becuase,
it is very exhuastive tool which may be difficult to use for every
project - small/big.
Is it more reliable and accurate that Visual DOE and Energy 10.
please give your opinion.
thanks
