It all comes down to convection coefficients.  In EnergyPlus, you can report 
convection coefficients (Surface Int Convection Coeff and Surface Ext 
Convection Coeff) and you can control them with the ConvectionCoefficients 
object or by simply chaging the Roughness field in the outside material layer.  
So, even without knowing the real relationship between ribs and heat transfer, 
you could get an idea of the potential impact of, say, a 10-fold increase in 
convection coefficients.
