Note that the new Office (2007) allows more columns in Excel (finally!)

There is also some instructions for breaking >255 columns into 
pieces.  (They must have been a message, I will try to locate and put 
into the Examples or Utilities folder).

Finally, you can ask for specific variables in the .rvi file for the 
ReadVars program and, additionally, ask (on command line) for 
reporting only monthly, hourly, etc of those.
