[EnergyPlus_Support] Two beginner-level questions

I've searched the archives for answers to these questions and haven't
been able to find anything that answers my questions exactly. So, if
you'll all excuse the posing of some fairly elementary questions...

1. I want to create multiple zones within one space. How do I this? It
seems that to define two zones as being in thermal contact with one
another, one needs to specify a surface in each respective zone, and
enter the name of one zone's surface in the other's
OutsideFaceEnvironment Object field (and vice versa). But when one
specifies a surface, one is also obliged to specify a construction for
that surface -- despite the fact that there is no construction there!
Is it as simple as creating a void construction of some kind and using
this for the zone-separating surfaces?

2. When two surfaces are specified as thermally communicating using
the OutsideFaceEnvironment and OutsideFaceEnvironment Object fields,
what construction is used to calculated thermal transfer between the
zones? Are the constructions of the thermally communicating surfaces
stuck together, are they averaged, or is one or other chosen based on
some criteria?

Any assistance in these matters would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Josh
