Inside EnergyPlus there are two separate ways that surface heat transfer
calculations are done, one for "quick" conduction and a second for
"slow" conduction. It is the heat capacity in the surface's
construction that determines which will be used. ("Quick" includes
terms that more directly use the opposite face temperature). In current
and previous version of E+, the exterior vented cavity model was
implemented for only the "slow" conductions and it doesn't work properly
for "quick." This incomplete implementation is now corrected and will
be in the next version (expected out in April).
A construction with all Regular-R materials will always be "quick." But
it is possible to have a construction made of Regular materials that is
lightweight enough to also be "quick." I think this explains the
discontinuity you are seeing in some of your cases. For version 2.1,
you'll have to use materials with a normal amount of mass and heat
capacity.

We are using regular materials but we have found the same problem in
some cases.
In our file, if we just change the the thickness of the outter layer
of the supporting wall by 0.01, the results changes from expected to
physicaly impossible (surface outside temperature bigger than the
exterior baffle temperature).
We are almost sure that this is a bug to be fixed, but in the
meanwhile I would like to know if can trust the results of the cases
that the simulation seems reasonable.
