Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] PMVET* and PMVSET*

The following response comes from the developer who implemented the thermal
comfort routines in EnergyPlus . . .

Looking at the models in the Pierce subroutine, it appears from a relatively
quick first glance that the main difference between the two calculations is
that PMVET* uses the following to calculate convection from the body to the
surroundings:

    Hc = 8.6*AirVel**0.53
    IF (ActMet > .9) THEN
      HcAct = 5.66*(ActMet - 0.85)**0.39
      Hc = MAX (HcAct, Hc)
    ENDIF

When calculating PMVSET*, the following is used to calculate convection from
the body to the surroundings:

    IF (ActMet <= 0.86) ActMet = 0.86
    HcStd = 5.66*(ActMet - 0.85)**0.39

Both calculations include the operative temperature as part of the process.

However, if the question is why do PMVET* and PMVSET* of the Pierce model
differ from PMV of the Fanger model, the answer is that there are two
completely different models with differing modeling techniques.
