RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Google Sketch Up error Issues

Hi Nuno,

The gaps between the zones are caused by the 'Generate fully enclosed zones'
model option not being set in the DesignBuilder data. You can find this
option on the Advanced tab of the Model options dialog:

http://www.designbuilder.co.uk/programhelp/lumping_and_merging.htm

If you check this option DB will generate connection surfaces between
connectioning zones in different blocks to account for the block wall
thickness. See

www.designbuilder.co.uk/programhelp/wall_thickness.htm

and

www.designbuilder.co.uk/programhelp/surface_types.htm

Hi Nuno,

The irregularities in geometry appear in the DXF that EnergyPlus writes out
too, so it is not an import error in the plugin. My guess is that you might
not have been as accurate as you thought when you were doing the
supplemental work in the plugin. It's pretty easy to misalign surfaces when
using SketchUp unless you are careful to use its "snap-to" features.
Another possibility is that you made some misalignment mistakes in
DesignBuilder when you were first drawing the model. Unless you have an
original version of the IDF from DesignBuilder (which you might have), it's
hard to say what happened. I think you should be able to easily repair
these irregularities using the plugin and without any risk of harming the
model. That said, it's always good to make backups along the way...

Hi Peter,

I´m writing hoping that you could give me some guidance help on a
model in which I´m working for some time. The building is a
SuperMarket drawed with DesignBuilder from which I exported the idf
file and used the Skecth Plugin to do all the suplemental work with
geometry. The problem is that there are some irregularities on the NW
block side of the building. When we look closer to the two floor block
side, the plugin seems to have separate the blocks from the main
bigger block leaving a air space between them. Why doesn't this happen
? I can I effectively correct this error without "harming" the model
and compromise the simulation?

Thank you very much for the help
Nuno

P.S. I´m sending the SuperMarket idf file so that you can have a look
at it.
