RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Window heat gain- shading coefficient calculation

Sorry, I read film not fin…it is just geometry to cast a shadow on the glass and the shading coefficient will be a variable with the solar angle.  EnergyPlus could give you the raw numbers to calculate this by looking at the window solar gain each time step with and without the fin.

Thanks Ned,
but I'm not sure if Window takes into account shading from the shading fin.
Thanks,
Pallavi

You can calculate glazing properties using the WINDOW and OPTIC programs from LBL.  OPTIC allows you to make a glass for WINDOW using different base glasses and applied films as long as they are in the current library.  WINDOW will then calculate a number of glazing system performance parameters based on the glass you import from OPTIC

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] Window heat gain- shading coefficient calculation

All,

I need to calculate shading coefficient of a window glass with and
without the effect of a shading fin. I could not find any software
that does this for me so this is how Im trying to to calculate it:
Calculate window heat gain for both cases from Eplus and then perform
a manual calculation to get shading coefficient of the window. Since
the shading coefficient is the ratio of solar heat gain admitted
through the glass as compared to the solar heat gain admitted through
1/8" clear glass (1/8" clear glass = 1.0 Shading Coefficient) under
similar conditionsâ¦ so If I siimulate the base case as 1/8â clear
glassâ€¦ and then calculate the ratio.. I should get my resultâ¦ (?)

Did anyone of you face this kkind of a scenario before? Can you please
shed some light on this?
Would you know of any tools that does this kind of simulation?
Any input is highly appreciated!

Thanks,
Pallavi
