Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] HVAC capacity - autosize and fixed

Please send the input data files for your two cases (COP = 2,94 and COP = 2.39) to the EnergyPlus helpdesk via e-mail to:

EnergyPlus-Support@xxxxxxxx

In your e-mail, describe which version of EnergyPlus you are running and the weather file you are using for the simulation.

Dear all,

We noticed that the HVAC capacity is changing according to different COP by using the autosize option for Cooling Coil Capacity. For example, for the same HVAC: if the COP is 2,94 the result  in the eio file for the total capacity  is 62726Watts and, if that cop is decreased to 2,39 the capacity becomes 94906Watts.

Then, we tried to fix the capacity to change only the COP value. But we got a severe error:

Sizing: COIL:DX:COOLINGBYPASSFACTOREMPIRICAL "AC_ZN_1 COOLING COIL": Rated air volume flow rate per watt of rated total cooling capacity is out of range.

We also tried to put the minimum, average and maximum value of rated air volume rate (times the capacity as required) but we got the same severe error.

Our questions are:

-          Why the capacity is changing according to cop? Should not it be according to zone loads and design days??

-          If no rated air volume flow is accepted, how do we use the HVAC Cooling Coil Capacity without autosize option?

Thanks,

Labeee team.
