Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Modeling phase change materials with energy plus

Pete:

I have done some studies with PCM in E+ constructions.  Two pieces of advice:

1) You have to use the conduction finite difference code to solve phase change material simulations.  This leads to long-duration simulations, so:
a. Don't do full annual simulations until all bugs are worked out of the model
b. Keep your geometry model as simple until all bugs are worked out
2) Carefully generate the enthalpy vs. temperature curves.  These can be temperamental and have a significant impact on the output.

For reference, I was able to realize savings with PCM constructions over many other constructions.

Good luck,
Edwin
