Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Geothermal system in closed loop

Hi Pregas,
Yes and No. E+ cannot size the ground loop in its current capabilities, but it can simulate the performance of one. E+ ground loop simulation is based on "g-function" model and thus requires user to provide the g-function (basically the step thermal response of the borehole) and other soil, fluid properties. E+ provides a library of g-functions of common borefield types, but if you have a complicated or a huge borefield you might consider developing custom g-functions using a commercial software. There are publications (theses and articles) from Oklahoma State University that discusses the model in detail.

Good luck.

Hi,

I am designing and analyzing a geothermal closed loop vertical pipes system. My company uses Trace, but it doesnt have the capacity to calculate the geothermal pipe length and simulate the conditions based on the soil characteristics. I was wondering if energy plus can do such analysis? Any inputs/help is appreciated.

Thanks
