You can have both, but you don't have to.  A few versions back, the feature was added to specify the outer boundary condition of a surface as another zone, while will duplicate the wall, reversed, internally in the program.  This way you don't have to specify it twice.

Thanks for the reply. I have another question - 

When I have imported a file into E+, under Surface:HeatTransfer, I get the wall surface repeated twice - once with construction material and once with the construction material reversed. I have got to have both as such or is it an instance?
