That surface defines the position and
geometry for all the PV models, but the net area of that surface is only used with
the Simple model. Net area is the gross area minus the area of any sub-surfaces
–see I/O Ref entry for the field called “Fraction of Surface Area with
Active Solar Cells. The more advanced PV models use the area of the PV module entered
in the respective PhotovoltaicPerformance input objects and don’t use the
