The EnergyPlus, as released, runs on 64 bit machines -- but even when we
have tried compiling for 64 bit, there does not seem to be any great
advantage (run time or using memory) over the 32 bit compiles so we are
not considering releasing a separate 64 bit version.

Are you asking about 64 bit Linux?  We already distribute 32 bit
Linux and Mac versions.
