Yes, I had assumed that EnergyPlus would be easier to compile for 64bit linux

and provide for better performance. I'm no programming expert. I do know

that a CFD program we use runs better on linux than windows. In 32 bit.

I think not developing a fast 64bit version might be a mistake for the long run?

It ssems to me that part of the problem with DOE2 and BLAST

was that they didn't keep up with technology.

Personally I wouldn't want to see the same thing happen to EnergyPlus, which is a great

tool.

The EnergyPlus, as released, runs on 64 bit machines -- but even when we have tried compiling for 64 bit, there does not seem to be any great advantage (run time or using memory) over the 32 bit compiles so we are not considering releasing a separate 64 bit version.

Are you asking about 64 bit Linux? We already distribute 32 bit Linux and Mac versions.
