[EnergyPlus_Support] corner sub-surfaces

Hi,
I've got a question concerning Design Builder, but I guess one might also come across a similar problem in EnergyPlus.
I'm trying to simulate an external wall in a building, defining reinforced concrete as its sub-surface to simulate the structural columns. How would I simulate a corner column, given that if sub surfaces are defined at the edge of each one of the joining walls, the result is two separate sub-surfaces with a wall material (ie brick) join, as seen on the image below?
It looks like the wall thickness is not taken into account when modeling surfaces.
