Yes, you can.  A quick scan through available objects in EnergyPlus when searching for GroundHeatExchanger reveals three:

GroundHeatExchanger:Vertical

GroundHeatExchanger:Pond

GroundHeatExchanger:Surface -- this is the one you are looking for.
