[EnergyPlus_Support] Re: ashrae 90.1, EPACT

As I understand it, you need to calculate how much you would pay for the solar panel generated power if you were to buy it in (at the same rate as your grid electricity), bearing in mind you are only allowed to bring into consideration electricity that is also used buy your building. That means, hypothetically, if you were to generate power on site at night when your building is not using it, it is considered wasted unless you could save it and use it during the day. So in your case, 17% is far off enough to assume that the PV-system would never generate more than the building needs (check me on this) and therefore you can "subtract" this amount in USDollers from the total energy cost of the year. To do this I would assign the PV-electricity rate equal to the grid electricity rate (if that's possible with a meter on the PV-plant) and then, as you say, subtract it from the total building energy cost (because you're not paying for it). This way it can be clearly seen what the building energy cost is and how much money (energy) is being saved.

In other words, if the model says the proposed building is better than ASHRAE 90.1 by 13% and photovoltaics generate 17% of the basebuilding's energy use, then is it legitimate according to ASHRAE 90.1 or Title 24 to say that 30% is achieved? (30%= 13% added to 17%)"
