I worked one project in ecotect 2011 and also  openstudio.

in my opinion openstudio is much better because in ecotect after export you have many errors and bugs.

also sketchup and openstudio for modeling are 10 time faster than ecotect ! also their export is energy plus 6 but ecotect's export is energy plus 3 and you have to convert it to 6.

i do the geometry, scheulds and building envelope with ecotect building simulation from autodesk, and it is kind of easy over the export template to import to to EPlus. You can download all autodesk programms free as a student with a working student e- mail. There are some little thing to be aware, but a lot you can fix in eplus later on. only the caculation in ecotect could take a few hours, depends on the building.
