Linda is right, there are duplicate interior partitions because of “somethinh wrong.”
The interior partitions use the “Zone” outside boundary condition. This creates the other side surface automatically, but when you also enter in the other side surface, you get two that are collocated in the same place. This messes up the volume calculations.

I have seen this before when users put in the interzone surfaces so as to let EnergyPlus create them and then, for some reason, also put them in as surfaces in the zone.
You need to look at the Surface Details report as well as the .eio file numbers for volume.
The volume calculation is a polyhedron volume calculation, there are several formulas shown on the web:

I do not have an exact reference for the method we use in EnergyPlus.
