RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Energy Recovery Units and Fan Power

The pressure rise is entered in the Fan object.  If you change components of the air handler, the fan objects pressure rise should be adjusted to account for them.  Except for Fan:ComponentModel, the fan pressure rise is modeled as a constant.  However for advanced users, it is possible to override the value for pressure rise during the simulation using the Energy Management System.

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] Energy Recovery Units and Fan Power

Hello,

I'm a little confused about how the additional fan power consumption associated with use of an energy recovery unit (HeatExchanger:AirToAir) is taken into account in EnergyPlus.  In the example files where the air to air heat exchanger is used as an energy recovery device, the airloop is set up similar to in the attached image.  In this case, does the AirLoopHVAC fan have to overcome the additional pressure drop of the heat exchanger on both the supply and exhaust sides?  Where is this pressure drop specified?  And how do I specify a different pressure drop for times when the economizer is active and outdoor air bypasses the heat exchanger?

Thanks,

Karen
