I suggest you try GoodReader for the iPhone. It's very good with PDFs and has a text search function.

Have the io ref PDF on the phone. spent hours trying different PDF readers. The problem is not the reading, but the searching. Adobe is badly supported on iPhone, maybe that's why. I have not found any readers good at searching key words. my favourite is Folio.
