[EnergyPlus_Support] Re: Setting the HVAC ON/OFF cycle

Dear Aditya,
Your control logic, although it is simple, is not so simple to achieve with energy plus.
The Partload Ratio defines (more or less) the same thing but with a "% time not on" which is time based instead of temperature based.

I think the only way to get this kind of control would be to write an EMS code, which would override the system availability from 1 to zero, as per the logic you describe. In this solution you would set the partload ratio to 1. In the EMS code you can "watch" the zone temperatures using sensors, and use "actuators" to modify (in your case) the system availibility schedule value.

Don't be scared of EMS. It's not hard to learn. See the documentation on it and look at the examples.

I'll try and find some time to scan through your code...I also have a similar EMS code which changed the schedule of some electrical equipment based on zone temp, but it may have to wait till the weekend.

Another option may be to set your Fan Availibility Schedule to AlwaysOff, and then use the NightManager (which is a higher level availibility manager, that works both night and day) with a delta T of 1 deg from your zone setpoint to force the fan ON when the temp falls below 1 deg of your setpoint or 1 deg above your setpoint in summer. Set the Part Load Ratio to 1 for this solution also.

Regards,

Jean
