Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Intermediate Building Layer Temperatures

Thanks for the advise Mr. Brent.
I'll search how things work within WINDOWS environment.
Regards.

Windows do not use the CondFD model so there are no nodes.  In EnergyPlus there are no outputs for individual layers inside a window, only for the inside face and outside face.  You would have to use the WINDOW program for that kind of detailed output.

Hi Mr. Brent,

Many thanks for your advise. I've successfully reported node information within EIO file.
In fact, this does not completely solved my problem. Since, I'm searching for an output variables (if there is any) to see the surface temperature of each glazing layer in a multi-pane glazing system.
For now, i can report outside or inside surface temperature of the whole window assembly, but when i comes to getting temperature info. about individual layers, I cannot figure it out.
Similar to temperature, I'd like to see variation of transmitted solar radiation (short-wave) at each layer of glazing. But I'm not sure if this is possible within EnergyPlus or not.
Thanks.

You need to have this in the IDF to get the summary report in the EIO.

Thank you for the reply.
I've checked the EIO ouput file, however the only information related is the selection of heat balance algorithm.
No further information can be obtained from EIO regarding determination of nodes for each construction.
ESO file reports individual outputs, however, these variables do not explain the rationale behind the total number of nodes per construction.
How is this discretisation realized? I cannot figure it out till now.
Best.

Check the EIO output file, the CondFD nodes used for each construction are summarized there.

Hi Mrs. Lawrie,

I've just received your reply from the Helpdesk system. I solved crash problem when I removed the material defined as Material:InfraredTransparent.
Now I can run simulations and get CondFD Nodal Temperature values for every building surface (including glazing materials). The thing is EnergyPlus generated results for a number of nodes (which is different for each surface). For example I have a partition wall with  3 nodes reported, or a floor slab with 11 nodes reported.
I'd like to learn how E+ defines the number of nodes to be reported? Are the nodes representing mid-layer or layer-surface temperatures?
Thanks so much.
Regards.

Hi All,

My question is about EnergyPlus  output variables:
Is there are method to get surface temperature values of intermediate building layers that make up the whole envelope construction assembly ?
Normally, inside and outside temperature of building surfaces are reported. I tried to use Conduction Finite Difference (CondFD) as a surface heat balance algorithm instead of the usual CTF (Conduction Transfer Function).
According to E+ input/output reference, one of the CondFD outputs is "CondFD Nodal Temperature [C]" for each node in the surface simulated. However, E+ crashes with such input. I already send a ticket to E+ support system.
However, there may be another way of getting such a variable from E+ which I may be ignoring now.
Thanks for the replies.
Best.
