RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Re: Help me to create the VAV system and zone

Hi, Xavier

I do not normally response to questions without the IDF attached.

There are a few questions like yours posted in this group during the last few month.

User thinking that a one zone building is easy to model, and imply that a beginer should start with a one zone model.  This is not true.

A beginner must use a valid HVAC model suitable for that building.

Why do you as a beginner wanted to model a VAV air loop, water plants, VAV zone and baseboard heaters, all in one go?

A single conference room normally will not use a complicated VAV system which requires additional sensors.  A packaged split compressor and fan coil units are all you need for cooling.  Baseboard electric, or gas water heater is all you need for heating.

You need to split your learning into the study of real systems and the use of simulation.

The templates in EPlus only cover the equipment portion of the IDF.  The main purpose of these templates is to show you how the nodes and branches should be placed and named in the IDF.   The templates are grouped in the I/O manual to show you how the various system are put together.  The template example file shows you how they are used with a building.  Some of the full example files show you how special arrangement can be made after using the templates.

The error file you posted shows  a very common severe error.  However, it is not normally generated with a template IDF.

Some required  template may be missing, or the user has change some node and branches in the expIDF and used that as IDF.  This is the reason why I do not response to questions without the IDF, as it becomes a guessing process and is time wasting.

When you send the IDF, send the original un-expanded version, and indicate what third party software was used to export the file, if you were not using the IDFeditor or text editor.

If you do not know how to use a text editor, I would suggest that you practice that as well.

Use short zone names, such as:  L1_ConfRm100, to show that it is a conference room on the ground floor and may have 100 people capacity.

There are many example files you can try.  5zones does not mean that the area must be partitioned that way, and the buildinghas five rooms.  It can be one big room so sectioniized so the heating from the outside can be studied inside the building.  There is always a cool side and a warm side in a room when the sun is shining.  .

Find !

But this example doesn't work with Template, but with

-Zone Thermostat
- Air Loop Unit (for the air circulation)
-Fan, H/C Coils,
-...

I have to read attentively this example and do the same with my model.
One more question and after I leave the office and I leave you alone ^^
What is the categories :

Air Distribution and Node-Branch management ?
