[EnergyPlus_Support] Re: heat exchanger for heating domostic water
Hi Tooran,
Is this for your (domestic hot water) DHW heater or another heat exchanger? I use this object often to simulate a water to water plate type heat exchanger (they have very little volume...just the water between the plates) to get a secondary loop at a different temperature.
If you are sending 80 degC boiler water into the DHW heater, the idea is that it will draw 80 degC water when the tank (tank temp = secondary loop supply temp) drops below the setpoint. A DHW tank must have a setpoint (usually about 50 degC) which changes to 65 degC twice a day forcing the tank to over heat twice a day to destroy "bad things" like legionare's bacteria, etc.
If you have an uncontolled heat exchanger, use > 80 degC and control the hot water from the boiler by throttling the supply (can use a pipe object for this) or turning the pump on and off. The tank itself can heat up no warmer than the source heat.
Hope that helps.
