Hello,
I think that what Our friend want´s to achive without using the pump:
"Thermosiphon (alt. thermosyphon) refers to a method of passive heat exchange based on natural convection, which circulates liquid without the necessity of a mechanical pump. " (wikipedia)
Conclusion : The pump´s energy consumption is not relavent to what I think our friend is looking for.
