You may wish to explore TRNSYS, as it is the next step up in customization--as "workarounds" are possible but not necessarily preferred, and when a workaround is used the best case is to verify it with another tool...
I do not understand why this is not currently an object in E+, and expect that as time progresses it may be.. The nature of E+ is to evolve to provide objects so that work arounds are less commonly required. Funny how common workarounds are used in eQuest, for concepts Energy Plus can perform off the shelf, and also funny when workarounds are used in E+ for items that have tested "type"'s in TRNSYS


You may wish to use TRNSYS free version---
Solar Thermal Collectors (Type 73 FPC or Type 538 ETC TRNSYS )
