RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] Neutral Temp Thermal Storage

The gound is the natural storage tank.

All you need to do is to shade the ground between the buldings.  The buildings will exchange heat with the ground, which is cool in Summer and warm in Winter.

The Interlace Project in Singapore is an example of this type of arrangement with a number of buildings forming a Hexagon, and a water park in the middle.

If you fill up  basement with water, the side wall would heat the water during the day, and the floor will cool it during the day and  night.  The building above will be cooled in Summer.

The effect may not be much different from the ground, exept that the water may be heated by solar energy  if desired using colar collectors.  It is possible to do this with the ground as well using buried pipes..

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] Neutral Temp Thermal Storage

Hi,

I need to model a system that uses a neutral temperature thermal storage device for a heat pump loop system. A number of buildings will be connected to a large thermal storage tank which which will be maintained between two setpoints by a geothermal well. The thermal storage tank will allow the buildings to exchange energy with each other as well as provide a buffer for the geothermal pump capacity.

The thermal storage systems in EnergyPlus seem to be dedicated to either heating or cooling. Any ideas on how to model a "neutral" thermal storage?
