The way around that issue is to either never save your sketchup file (.skp). Or if you decide to save your sketchup file, everytime you open the object info manager where you designate the construction, surfaces etc. Always click on the drop down for at least two of the fields and select your corresponding surface. What I mean is this:

Say you have a south wall which is an exterior wall.

You type south wall on your object info manager and even though when you draw the zone the selection for construction is by default exterior wall, click on the drop down and select exterior wall again.
You will have to do this everytime you create a surface.

I hope my rambling made some sense.

Hi Veronika,

It might be that you aren't drawing all your surfaces in the actual zone, there are a couple of things to make sure of when drawing in open studio.

1) make sure when you are drawing the zone is not blue but is grey with dotted lines

2) When saving the model, only save in the open studio plugin

3) if doing "save as" make sure you save your file name with .idf after it. (if you don't do this you can edit the file name later and add .idf, then it will become an idf file.)

4) do not save the sketchup model, I know this is tempting but it will often mess up your idf file when you try to reopen it.

I hope this helps

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] Sketch up and E+

Hello everyone,

I am just started use E+ for my project in University. My question can be very easy for some experts.
I meet some hardship, maybe someone has idea how to solve it. I would appreciate the help and suggestions from group.

1) When I start create 3D building in SketchUp, program recognise all materials, zones and walls, windows, doors. However, when I open the same file second time some of data is missing. Some sides of the building doesn't recognised by Eplus. Which makes a me to recreate building again and again...and it takes a lot of time.

Furthermore, there are some severe errors occur even just with simple 10 zones building simple simulation.

Anyway,I found one option is to create building in Sketch-up, save the idf. file and then work with this idf file. It is possible to do on Mac version, however I cant figure out why in Windows version it is not saving idf file.

2)In SketchUp I dont have Run Manager and Result Viewer (however the results I can see in output folder) and some other options that shown in youtube.com videos regarding Eplus and running simulation. Is it something wrong with my software, or everyone has the same tools?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Veronika
