2. just because it doesn’t complain vigorously, doesn’t mean that it works right. The desuperheater models are implemented in code to only be used as a sort of side arm off a water heater.
3. Add some heating capacity to the water heater and use its internal heater as a backup.
5. Yes, a water heater can use all kinds of different fuels and is not that different from a boiler unless you need fancy efficiency relationships.
