Research
Associate
Welsh School of
Architecture
Cardiff University
The Welsh School of Architecture is seeking to appoint a Research
Associate to work with the Principal Investigator on a research project funded
by EPSRC to develop better outputs from building thermal simulation tools to
improve decision making in the design of low energy buildings.
This research proposes to focus on the gap that exists between the
output information from building thermal simulation tools and what is actually
needed for building designers to undertake informed design decisions when
designing energy-efficient low carbon buildings. It aims to generate procedures
to produce post-processed information and data representation systems that are
meaningful to building designers ? consonant with their modus operaandi and way
of thinking. These procedures include parameters, indices, diagrammatic and
multimodal ways of representing results as well as possibilities of undertaking
design changes. They will be illustrated by a series of tested and validated
examples developed through interdisciplinary collaboration with the UK Energy
Research Systems Unit (ESRU) and the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory
(NREL).
Applicants should have a good degree in a relevant discipline along with
previous experience in conducting and organising research projects in a
relevant field. They should have very good knowledge of building thermal
physics, evidence of architectural practice skills and excellent knowledge of
building design. Good research and analytical skills are essential as are
excellent presentation skills.
This post is fixed-term for 12 months.
This is a full time position of 35 hours per week.
Salary: £30,122 - £35,938 per annum (Grade 6).
