Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] false zone name duplicates

I'm writing an application to automatically generate IDF files, so there's no particular building in question. I need to know of any general restrictions and "gotchas" for zone names.

I personally like to name zones as follows:

FloorNumber:SpaceType

for example f1:OfficePerimeterEast would be the perimiter east office zone on floor one.

by assigning zone names with some level of modularity, it becomes much nicer to duplicate zones, systems and entire floors. For instance, I could build an entire floors geometry and mechanical system, duplicate in a new file, find and replace f1: with f2: and modify the z coordinate in the zone object and put it all back together in one file in order to duplicate an entire floor.   Also it is much easier to understand the output of f1:OfficePerimeterEast or f1:Office1 zone air temperature as opposed to some random series of characters.

Hope this helps.

Jason
