Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Error explanation needed

Ignore for that discrepancy.  Next release, I will add the ground contact surfaces into the sum for the classes.  They can't be added to exterior surface area as that may be used in Infiltration/Ventilation and doesn't seem right to include ground contact surfaces there.

Likewise, the 90.1 looks at tilt angles rather than classes.  So a roof tilted more then 60 degrees is considered a wall there. The warning came in during (I think) the V6 release when someone notice the WWR (Wall to Window Ratio) was way off -- which was due to either classes or angles -- I forget which!

If you'd like to send your input file to me (for testing of the changed sums), just send it to the helpdesk as "surface sum discrepancy" -- if you like.

Thank you for the quick responses, Linda and Dr. Li!

Dr. Li, all surfaces are defined in detailed format.

Following Linda's directions I checked all roofs and they are reported correctly. But what I noticed, is that "Wall area based on [>=60,<=120] degrees (tilt)" check includes all walls with Outside Boundary Condition = Ground and the "user entered Wall class surfaces" check does not!

I changed the Outside Boundary Condition of these walls to Outdoors just to confirm and the warning did not show. When I changed it back to Ground, the warning appeared again. Is there any workaround in this situation or should I simply ignore the warning?

Thank you!
Miroslav

You can do the Output:Surfaces:List, Details to see what is considered a wall according to your classes.

Or it might be easier to just put "DetailedWWR_DEBUG;" in your input file and look at the .dbg file to see a brief set of reports that shows what is included for both.  No, this report is not documented at the present time.

Hello Everybody,

Where can I find more information on the following error:

** Warning ** WriteVeriSumTable: InputVerificationsAndResultsSummary:
Wall area based on [>=60,<=120] degrees (tilt) as walls
**   ~~~   ** differs ~17.6% from user entered Wall class surfaces.
Degree calculation based on ASHRAE 90.1 wall definitions.
    **   ~~~   ** Calculated based on degrees=[5167.071] m2, Calculated
from user entered Wall class surfaces=[4393.927] m2.
**   ~~~   ** Check classes of surfaces and tilts for discrepancies.

The building that I model has inclined roofs which I think are causing
this. But the incline of the roof surfaces is less than 20 degrees, so
they shouldn't be considered as walls judging by "Wall area based on
[>=60,<=120] degrees (tilt) as walls".

I searched the documentation but did not find anything on this topic.
Any help is appreciated!

Thank you!
Miroslav
