[EnergyPlus_Support] Re: Horizontal Infrared Radiation Intensity From Sky

Ryan,

Your ahead of me if you understand all the variables - I can work
think through most of them as needed but some are fairly obscure.

Horizontal Infrared Radiation Intensity From Sky is essentially the
temperature of the sky itself. So if you have an overcast night it is
MUCH warmer in the radiation spectrum (i.e. no frost again). This
radiation will be 24 hours a day and vary according to the temperature
of the air, % clouds, etc. If you can't tell my understanding of this
parameter is fairly primitive.

The New Zealand TMY files were generated by NIWA (you can find the
contact in the header of the epw file). They supposedly do NOT have Horizontal
Infrared Radiation Intensity From Sky measured so the NZ TMYs should have
this set to null and EnergyPlus calculates this from opaque and thin
cloud cover. See NIWA Client Report: LAU2008-01-JBL November 2008.
That said when I looked at the file I think it has values and they make sense
(i.e. they are higher for complete cloud cover and lower when the sky
is clear).
