Hi, Jeremiah
Please do response to the mails, even if it is addressed to me by name. This is the purpose of the forum. For Haibo The file name in the exampleFiles folder is EcoroofOrlando.idf. I have not run this file. The earlier version showed that the roof actualy store the solar energy during the day and keep the night timeperature higher. It helps to keep the surroundings cool. To change the thermal characteristic of a wall, it is just a matter of modifying the values in the outer layer material for the construction of the building. You can use a text editor for that. I do not use any third party software, so I cannot help you there. You can draw beautiful pictures with GUI, but they may not work in simulation. Some one built a 128 hole shade using 128 pieses of rectangular blocks joined together. It was very easy using DesignBuilder. However, the simulation did not went well, with many warnings on the structure, and took a long time to run. That was the reason why I said that leaves, grass, etc. cannot really be simulated with the actual geometry. . Hopefully Dr YI is not offended, by my answering this- but please:
The attached file comes with energy plus> example files>ecoroof Orlando
I started with modification of IDF files to model systems rather then buildings and was able learn the basics in about a month, and got very comfortable with most functions of the software within 2 years.
