Suggest you look at the 'Contrasting 20 Tools' report that was done a few years ago.  It's not quite what you're looking for --  the contrasting report includes Ecotect and EnergyPlus.  Ecotect is an engine and an interface.  DesignBuilder is an interface for EnergyPlus and includes other engines (CFD). .
