RE: [EnergyPlus_Support] RE: accommodating images in the IDF file(s)

Dr. Kim’s main point / concern is that documentation of an energy model is essential.  With only a few thousand decisions made during the course of its preparation, it’s always a simple matter to recall all of them a month (or several months) later when someone like the GBCI review team asks a question !!!!

I like the suggestions of using a link or .RTF files.  Thanks to Linda and Dr. Li!

Because I use text editor all the time, I have found it quite effective to save the IDF in the .rtf format for commenting and including charts, and pictures or figures from the manual.

It is still possible to use cut and paste between the .rtf and .idf.  Fonts and colour would be removed by the .idf, when it is saved in text only format again.

By design, the IDF is a flat ASCII text file -- does not incorporate images well -- however you could add links to your images -- as documentation.  though the links might not be active with most text editors -- could be copied and pasted.

Comments were intended as the user documentation of the process.

Thanks for your reply.

I have tried to write down my thoughts using "!" in text editor.

However, it is very difficult for me to make a note my thoughts effectively only using characters and symbols.

If images and rich text are supported, it would be better for reading and summarizing ones comments.
(The imagmages can be drawings or PPT or air/water loops or control signal flow (such as a block diagram)).

The reason why NO ONE suggest this fun function may be most of the EP users are so skilled and satisfied, thus they may not need this function (except for me J).

It is just my opinion, any reply would be appreciated.
