A heat pump is a “reversible” air conditioning system, so it can remove heat from the indoor air (and reject it outdoors) or the opposite. The normal supplemental heating for cases when it is too cold outdoors for this to be effective is an electric coil. A typical split (unitary) system can use any type of heating coil. Relative efficiencies of the two systems vary greatly. p.s., Also, become familiar with the EnergyPlus Input Output Reference. It contains a LOT of useful information about these systems./ James V Dirkes II, PE, BEMP, LEED AP From: EnergyPlus_Support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:EnergyPlus_Support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of migue885 Primary EnergyPlus support is found at: http://energyplus.helpserve.com or send a message to energyplus-support@xxxxxxxx The primary EnergyPlus web site is found at: http://www.energyplus.gov The group web site is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EnergyPlus_Support/ Attachments are currently allowed but be mindful that not everyone has a high speed connection.
