I concur with Brent, but it certainly depends on the Windows version you are running on (more importantly the format of the underlying file system: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_systems#Limits).

If you are on Windows, I think it is important to keep file sizes below 2Gigs or the operating system will have problems.  For full annual runs, it is usual to need/want to reduce the output variable requests.

Anyone experiance with an energyplus simulation which didn't generated an SQL file ?
It was generated during a half year simulation (+- 1 Gbyte), but when simulating a full year, the SQL is simply not generated.
