Re: [EnergyPlus_Support] Modeling Condensing Unit in the DX system

Thank you for your prompt reply. I happen to come across this chiller module in EnergyPlus, Chiller:Electric:ReformulatedEIR which uses the LEAVING condenser temperature as an input for generating the curves instead of the ENTERING condenser water temperature in the Chiller:Electric:EIR module. I would like to ask if this LEAVING condenser temperature is the same as the Saturation Suction Temperature that is mentioned in many of the manufacturer's specification for air cooled condensers and if this module can be used together with the Coil:Cooling:DetailedGeometry module to model a DX split system where the Condensing Unit is specified separate from the cooling coil.

Best,
Weili

If you are a fairly advanced user comfortable with EMS, there is an object called Coil:UserDefined that can be used to roll your own model.  See the chapter called User-Defined Component Models in the EMS Application Guide.

Subject: [EnergyPlus_Support] Modeling Condensing Unit in the DX system

Hi,

I am currently trying to model a condensing unit that is connected to a DX coil in EnergyPlus. I know that one way is to model it under Coil:Cooling:DX, specifying the 5 performance curves as input to model part load performance. However, unlike a packaged rooftop system, the performance data provided by the manufacturer for a condensing unit is a function of saturated suction temperature and ambient air temperature. Hence I would like to ask if there is any other ways to model the specification for such a condensing unit (as part of a DX system) in EnergyPlus?

Best,
Weili
